The SDSN mobilizes the world’s leading academic and research institutes and leverages their strengths to help promote practical solutions to sustainable development challenges and realize the SDGs and the Paris Agreement. Spanning six continents, the SDSN network comprises over 2,000 member institutions, primarily universities, coordinated by 57 National and Regional Networks.

The SDSN’s national and regional networks focus on distinct projects and priorities in line with their local contexts and challenges. Our Networks translate the latest expertise in sustainable development into action by: (1) Promoting high-quality education and research collaboration for sustainable development; (2) Localizing and mobilizing support for the SDGs, including supporting governments in understanding and addressing the challenges of sustainable development; and (3) Vetting and launching solution initiatives.

SustainChain Community Platform

The SDSN recently partnered with SustainChain™, a public service platform built by the U.S. Coalition on Sustainability, to further scale the necessary solutions and actions required to accelerate sustainable development progress. The SustainChain platform enables the SDSN community to collaborate with key stakeholders across the sustainability ecosystem, and provides critical resource-sharing tools and AI-driven insights tailored to advancing our collective sustainability goals. The new community will be open to SDSN member focal points, as well as key faculty and staff working on sustainability initiatives at those member institutions.

Projects Supported by the European Commission

The Networks program works closely with the European Commission and local partners on several projects aimed at establishing systemic solutions and innovations to improve climate resilience and adaptation across Europe. Projects include ARSINOE, IMPETUS, Climate Resilient Development Pathways in Metropolitan Regions of Europe (CARMINE), and CATALYST.
