Universities have always had a critical role in addressing the challenges of sustainable development through their research, innovation, education and leadership. The new global focus on the achievement of the SDGs provides all universities with an opportunity to deepen and accelerate these contributions.
The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is working to help universities mobilize greater focus and action on the SDGs. The SDSN guide, “Getting Started with the SDGs in Universities”, provides an overview of how all universities can contribute to the SDGs and some practical suggestions
Building on this guide, SDSN is developing a more in-depth guide on how universities and higher education institutions can support the uptake and implementation of the SDGs through their learning and teaching activities.
To support the new learning and teaching guide, we are inviting universities and higher education institutions from all parts of the world to submit case studies on SDG-related activities they are undertaking. The aim is to capture and showcase a diverse range of innovative, impactful, and replicable university SDG implementation practices that can inspire and assist other universities to take action.
We are looking for initiatives that were either motivated by the SDGs or explicitly address them. While initiatives that pre-existed the SDGs but are thematically linked to these goals are important, our focus here is to identify cases where universities have taken the SDGs as a frame to design a new line of action
The following are the categories of the cases focus of this call, and you can find a more detailed topic list here:
- Embedding SDG-related knowledge and skills/competencies in the curriculum or formal learning & teaching activities
- Mobilizing students on the SDGs
- Educating the community on the SDGs
- Embedding SDGs in university strategies, policies, operations and reports
- Transforming the Higher Education System
- Promoting uptake of SDGs in learning & teaching in the broader higher education sector
Case studies should be submitted through this form: https://goo.gl/forms/iJzfKnMchC7s9wMq2. The deadline for submissions is April 12, 2019. The form provides guidance for the information we would like you to provide, including how many words, etc.
We are aiming to launch this guide at the 2019 International Conference on Sustainable Development, and some case studies may be invited to present at the launch.
