Strategies for Implementing and Scaling Up Restoration in the Amazon
The Amazon region is nearing a critical tipping point, risking severe ecological and socio-economic impacts unless deforestation is halted, degradation reversed, and restoration accelerated. Achieving large-scale restoration requires diverse strategies, from natural regeneration to biodiverse agroforestry, tailored to specific socio-ecological contexts. Restoration efforts, combined with forest conservation, can drive socio-economic development through sustainable livelihoods, social inclusion, and capacity building, particularly benefiting youth and women. Central to success is integrating Indigenous knowledge and prioritizing the leadership of local communities to ensure ecological effectiveness, social justice, and the preservation of cultural values.
