Towards Seville 2025: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Development

REDS Promotes Dialogue and Channels Contributions from Stakeholders in Spain for the UN’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development

REDS-SDSN Spain recently organized two activities bringing together various stakeholderss to discuss and generate proposals on key issues for sustainable development.

Participatory Conference and Workshop on Financing for Sustainable Development

On November 13, 2024, the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS), the host institution of SDSN Spain, held a participatory event at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, with over 130 representatives from academia, the private sector, public administrations, the third sector, and civil society.

The event sought to contribute to the construction of Spain's position for the United Nations’ 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, which will take place in Seville, Spain from June 30 to July 3, 2025. Following the gathering, in January 2025, REDS prepared a document with the event’s main conclusions and proposals, which was submitted to the Government of Spain as input for defining the national position at this UN-led international summit on financing for development.

Online Workshop: Contributing to the Review of the Sustainable Development Strategy Challenges through the Connection Between Stakeholders and Territories

In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and the 2030 Agenda, SDSN Spain held an online session with more than 150 participants to contribute to the review of the national Sustainable Development Strategy and reflect on the national challenges, connecting with the issues identified in the 3rd Voluntary Progress Review, presented to the United Nations in July 2024.

The discussions focused on five key areas of action: social protection to combat poverty and inequality, a fair transition to address the climate crisis, labor rights, the care crisis, and fair taxation. The proposals that emerged from this session were compiled into a final document, which will serve as input for the Sustainable Development Strategy update.

Both events exemplify REDS-SDSN Spain’s commitment to connecting actors from different sectors and promoting a holistic approach to public policies, aimed at sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda. These initiatives emphasize the importance of multisectoral and territorial participation in addressing global challenges in a coordinated and forward-thinking manner.
