SDSN Italia’s Academy of Fine Arts Hosts “The Arts and Sustainable Development”

The Academy of Fine Arts of Rome is one of Italy’s leading institutions in artistic education, blending theoretical and practical approaches. In September 2023, it became the first Academy of Fine Arts in Italy to join the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), cementing its role as a catalyst for sustainable development through the arts. By embracing Target 4.7 of the 2030 Agenda — enhancing cultural diversity and the contribution of culture to sustainable development — the Academy seeks to broaden the ontological scope of sustainable development and become a global reference for the scientific, entrepreneurial, and artistic communities.

In its second year with the SDSN, the Academy joined the Leadership Council of SDSN Italia — chaired by the University of Brescia and Politecnico di Torino — to explore the relationship between creativity and sustainability. The Academy integrates sustainability into its academic and artistic practices, juxtaposing creativity and sustainable development in innovative ways.

In addition, to align with its commitment to sustainable development, the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome has launched a new Master's Degree “Design for Sustainability,” starting in October 2024 and aligned with the SDGs framework. This two-year Master's Degree came after the Academy’s acceptance to the SDSN and it is. Learn more about this course.
