SDGs Today and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Invite Civil Society Organizations to Join in School Mapping Activities

Civil Society Organizations within the SDSN Networks in Africa are formally invited to join SDGs Today in mapping schools for the My School Today project

My School Today aims to support students, local communities, and ministries to geo-reference schools and education facilities as part of an effort to promote timely information on school locations in Africa.

While enrollment rates continue to increase, other quality barriers remain for many students and learners. Physical distance to educational facilities is one such barrier. Timely data on school location is essential for the assessment of school and student needs, planning for resource allocation and access to other services such as health facilities, and policymaking processes that can improve the quality of education for students.

SDSN's SDGs Today launched My School Today to raise awareness about the potential of open-source crowdsourced data to empower educational ministries and SDG stakeholders with locally informed data that is free and accessible to all. 

SDGs Today, along with our partners at the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), invite Civil Society Organizations within the SDSN Networks in Africa to join us in our school mapping activities. CSOs can provide valuable support to the ongoing project, which has so far tracked the mapping of over 12,400 new school points on the OSM platform since July 2021. Through My School Today, participants can learn more about leveraging geospatial data while promoting Education for All (SDG4) locally.
