REDS-SDSN Spain Renews its Board of Directors and Advisory Council
Estibaliz Saez de Camara, Director of Sustainability at the Basque Country University (UPV/EHU), will be the new SDSN Spain Network Chair
On February 3, 2025, the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS), the host institution of SDSN Spain, held its annual Ordinary General Assembly. There, members approved a new Board of Directors and welcomed several additions to the Advisory Council. The Board and the Advisory Council are crucial in guiding SDSN Spain’s strategic direction, leveraging their expertise to strengthen partnerships and advance sustainable development.
Dr. Estíbaliz Sáez de Cámara was selected as Board President, after serving as Vice President since 2020. With a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Sáez de Cámara is a professor and researcher specializing in applied meteorology, climatology, and air quality modeling. Since 2017, she has also served as Director of Sustainability and Social Engagement at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
Sáez de Cámara will be joined by distinguished academics from Spain, each bringing extensive experience and a deep commitment to the network’s mission. The newly appointed Board also includes:
- Javier Benayas (Secretary) is a professor of Ecology at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
- Alfons Martinell (First Vice President) is a retired associate professor at the University of Girona. He is the co-director of the UNESCO Pau Casals Chair and Scientific Director of the Knowledge Community on Culture and Sustainable Development at REDS-SDSN Spain.
- David Padrón (Second Vice President) is a professor and researcher at the Center for Studies on Social Inequality and Governance (CEDESOG) at the University of La Laguna (ULL) and Ph.D. in Economics.
- Eugenia Suárez (Treasurer) is a professor at the University of Oviedo and Vice-Rector for Transversal Action and Cooperation with Business. She is a member of the Expert Panel of the Spanish Association of Sustainability Executives (DIRSE), the Advisory Committee for the 2030 Agenda of the Asturias Government.
- Ines Sánchez de Madariaga (Member) is Director of the UNESCO Chair on Gender at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Chair of the Gender Advisory Group of UN-Habitat
- Carlota Merchán (Member) is an expert in international cooperation and the 2030 Agenda, with extensive knowledge of legislative processes and public administration.
