October 2024 Spotlight - Celebrating Guilherme Iablonovski!

Through our employee spotlight campaign, the SDSN showcases our amazing employees and volunteers to honor and celebrate the incredible strides they are making toward advancing SDSN's mission.

This month, we are spotlighting Guilherme Iablonovski, Geospatial Data Scientist for the SDG Transformation Center! We asked Guilherme five questions about himself and his work with SDSN. Read on to learn more.

Which SDG are you most passionate about?

As an urbanist, I'm obligated to say SDG 11!

What is the best part about working at SDSN?

The freedom we have to advance the 2030 agenda with the best science available. Plus the teams are nothing short of amazing.

What is something that you are proud to have accomplished while working at SDSN?

I'm proud to have produced a first-of-its-kind geospatial indicator for the Global Common Stewardship Index. We combined spatially explicit data on deforestation, crop distribution and carbon storage along with import-exports from MRIO tables to estimate just how much deforestation is being driven by the products being bought and sold by each country.

In one word, describe the 2030 Agenda.

Challenge

What is a fun fact about you? What’s something others might not know about you?

Most people know I'm an architect turned urban planner turned cartographer turned data scientist. What most people don't know is that I was on my way to study musical composition at the university back in the day! I changed my mind on the very last second, but still have a piano in my place and every now and then host jam sessions with musician friends.
