Global Schools Participates in SDG Mobilization Day

The Global Schools Program recently participated in SDG Mobilization Day as part of the lead-up to the SDG Summit, courtesy of invitations from the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the International Trade Centre. Global Schools’ Director, Amanda Abrom, contributed to an insightful panel discussion on "Bridging the Financing Gap: Unleashing the Potential of SMEs.”

The event showcased insights from esteemed speakers across various domains. The keynote addresses were delivered by Ms. Mariana Mazzucato from University College London and Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, the UN Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda. Moderators for the discussions included Ms. Fiona Shera from the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Ms. Maria Jervis, IOE, associated with the Chamber of Industries and Production of Ecuador CIP.

Amanda joined a diverse panel of practitioners including Mr. Atul Tandon of Opportunity International, Mr. Chiagozie Nwabuebo from VISA, Mr. Mashrur Hossain Shurid and Ms. Oyungerel Munkhbat who are ITC Ecopreneurs Awardees, Mr. Muhammad Sarim Raza from Mawesh E-Mand, Ms. Hannah Levinson of Lahayim Cooperative, Ms. Alexandra Donnelly of C2FO, and Ms. Clara Arpa from Equipos Moviles de Campaña.

The discourse was rich, covering vast terrains from technology and finance to governance, regulatory policy, training, and capacity building. It was a testament to the multifaceted approach required to bolster Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in today's complex ecosystem.

Amanda shared her thoughts on the symbiotic relationship between businesses and secondary students. She highlighted that as industries evolve, it's imperative for businesses to engage with the younger generation. Offering internships where students can practically apply their skills is a leap in this direction. Such real-world experiences not only enrich their academic journey, but also provide a glimpse into the corporate world's expectations and workings. Students must be equipped with the knowledge of how to weave Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their ventures. By doing so, we are not just fostering a generation of successful entrepreneurs but also nurturing responsible global citizens.
