Global Schools and Siemens Energy Launch Guide on Renewable Energy for Schools and Educators in 100+ Countries

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) Global Schools Program is excited to announce the launch of the “SDG 7 Activities Guide: Renewable Energy and the Energy Transition.” This publication is part of the “Schools for Goal 7” initiative, a project by Global Schools in partnership with Siemens Energy, which trains teachers and students on renewable energy and the energy transition through gamified curricula.

The “Schools for Goal 7” program offers practical, hands-on experience on topics such as the energy transition, renewable energy, climate change, and sustainability, equipping the next generation with the skills necessary to create more resilient societies. Already, 63 educators have joined the pilot training program from 39 countries and are actively taking part in the training course.

Under this program, the “SDG 7 Activities Guide: Renewable Energy and the Energy Transition” serves as a valuable resource to assist educators and facilitators in exploring SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy). This guide is available for public use and educators in the “Schools for Goal 7” program.

The guide is structured into two publications:

  1. The first prepares teachers to teach SDG 7 by defining clear learning objectives and providing essential introductory materials on the energy transition;
  2. The second presents a series of classroom activities that transform theoretical concepts into practical applications. It also offers supplementary resources, such as career insights and case studies, to enhance the understanding of renewable energy. This guide aims to adapt complex energy topics while providing a structured approach that fosters active learning and constructive discussions about the energy transition.

“In the face of today’s challenges, the world needs responsible and committed citizens to find viable and sustainable solutions over time. Through education, these personal transformations can also lead to broader societal changes that create a more sustainable, peaceful, and just world for all.”

“As educators, we have the powerful opportunity to make visible the situation of many women and girls concerning access to clean and affordable energy and integrate SDG7 into our lessons with a gender-sensitive approach. This guide offers several examples that work at the intersection of SDG7 and SDG5.).”

These resources were designed with the support of the Global Schools SDG7 Educators Committee, including Marti Hendrichs (Austria), Sandra Ospina (Saudi Arabia), Nouf Youseff (Saudi Arabia), Cynthia Brawner (United States), Chinasa Gloria (Nigeria), Ngozi Awazie (Nigeria), Ahmet Murat Zeytcioglu (Thailand), Saumya Tripathi (India), Garima Singh (United Arab Emirates), Lizzie Muringi (United Arab Emirates), and Raymond Mitchell Africa (China).

The “Schools for SDG 7” pilot will continue through July 2025. The next publication launch will be a Greening STEAM education guide, linking STEAM principles to the SDGs. This publication will be released for global audiences in the upcoming months.
