Enriching Knowledge Exchange: SDSN Networks Participate in ‘A Sustainability University Tour’ at CUHK

On December 5–6, 2024, 29 administrators from 14 public and private universities in Thailand participated in the second sustainability university tour at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the co-host institution of SDSN Hong Kong SAR.

This initiative, organized by SDSN Thailand in collaboration with SDSN Hong Kong SAR, marked the second tour in two years. The first study tour was held in 2023 at Sunway University in Malaysia, in partnership with the SDSN Asia Secretariat. The objective of these tours is to promote and support the role of Thai universities in driving sustainable development while facilitating collaboration among universities to enhance their efforts. Additionally, the initiative fosters the exchange of lessons and knowledge among universities to advance sustainable development initiatives effectively.

The first day of the tour featured a roundtable discussion on sustainable development in higher education with the senior management of CUHK, followed by a sharing and exchange session on sustainability research. A lunch hosted by the Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK and Co-Chair of SDSN Hong Kong followed. Later, participants visited the Coral Academy and engaged in a closed-door session to reflect on the day’s learnings and takeaways.

On the second day, participants visited the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC) for an insightful session with students from MoCC and Diversity and Inclusion Ambassadors. They then attended a session with CUHK’s Centre for Business Sustainability, focusing on partnering with businesses and sustainable campus development and management. After the presentations, the two-day tour concluded with visits to several sustainable facilities.

Overall, the sustainability university tour successfully promoted and supported the role of universities as key partners in driving sustainable development in Thailand and the region.
