6th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit

The 6th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit (ISDS)was held from August 23-28 th in Ibadan, Nigeria. The theme of this year’s summit was “The Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda: Whither Africa?”

Hosted by the University of Ibadan Centre for Sustainable Development (CESDEV) in collaboration with the SDSN Nigeria and the African Sustainable Development Network (ASUDNET), the conference brought together over 150 participants from academia, government, civil society, and international organizations from Nigeria and across the continent, including Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and a high-level delegation from The Gambia.

The focus was on the SDGs in the African context and specifically the ECOWAS region and Nigeria, and covered the challenges and potential solutions for implementation. The conference was an opportunity for academics to present new research in all 17 goals areas, as well as for government representatives, including from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the MDGs (OSSAP) to share information about plans for SDG implementation. The conference concluded with recommendations on how Nigeria and the region can adapt and domesticate the SDGs for the national and local contexts.
