2020 SDSN Amazonia Award & Call for Support of RDI Solutions for Members

SDSN Amazonia launched a Prize and Call for SDI projects, in the table above you can find out the differences between the two calls. The table is available in Spanish as well.

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the Amazon (SDSN Amazonia) launched the SDSN Amazonia Award 2020 and applications are now open. SDSN Amazonia will award three sustainable solutions implemented in the Amazon region with a total of US $3,500. The award aims to identify, give visibility, and encourage practices that address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable communities, including indigenous, traditional, and urban communities in the Amazon region.

In addition, SDSN Amazonia, in association with the Instituto Amigos da Amazônia (iAMA), launched a call for proposals to support Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) projects focused on developing solutions to face COVID-19 in the Amazon. Two projects will be granted with the amount of up to US $5,000.

Universities, research centers, and civil society organizations affiliated to the SDSN Amazonia network, with their secretariat hosted by the Sustainable Foundation of Amazonas (FAS), are eligible to apply for the prize and call. We seek solutions in the nine countries of the Amazon basin: Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.

Organizations that are not part of SDSN Amazonia and want to participate can submit their membership application online.

According to the Panamazon Ecclesial Network (REPAM), there are already more than 338,000 confirmed cases and 12,000 deaths from the new coronavirus in the region. Among indigenous populations, 6,996 are infected and 629 have died, across 120 indigenous communities.

"The objective is to identify and support organizations working to combat this urgent threat, which puts 34 million inhabitants and more than 350 indigenous and traditional communities at risk, who are particularly vulnerable due to their isolation and limited access to medical care," highlights SDSN Amazonia Manager Carolina Ramírez Méndez.
