The University of Middle Lualaba is a small public university in Eastern Congo, founded in 2005. The university is structured around 6 faculties: agronomy, science (geology and biology), law, economics and management, political and administrative sciences, psychology and education sciences. They have only 350 students, but are engaged in research on practical solutions for local development problems. Examples of projects include fish farming in experimental ponds to help repopulate polluted rivers, the creation of a botanical garden for the perpetuation of plant and animal biodiversity, and a reforestation project in overexploited mining areas.
