The Institute for Labor and Society (IETS) is a private, plural, nonprofit organization dedicated to the production and dissemination of knowledge about social issues and the diagnosis, assessment and design of public policies to fight poverty and inequality and improve quality of life. To achieve these goals, IETS works in partnership and collaboration with different sectors of society, such as governments, corporations, corporate entities, educational and research institutions, foundations and non-governmental organizations.

Since its founding in 1999, IETS has been devoted to researching, studying and promoting discussions on the challenges and strategies for development in the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, in a comparative perspective, taking into account the experiences of other regions and countries. IETS has a plural and multidisciplinary team, formed by its permanent team and associated professionals, which include social scientists, teachers, businessmen, journalists, policy-makers and managers and leaders of different persuasions and institutions.
