The Turkish Sustainable Development Solutions Network was launched on June 27-28, 2014, in Istanbul, Turkey. Bogaziçi University hosted this launch in collaboration with the Columbia Global Center in Turkey. The attendance reached up to 100 participants coming from severalTurkish universities as well as a number of representatives from a diverse group of Turkish NGOs and the private sector and some international organizations.
The launch was led by Gülay Barbarosoğlu, the Rector of Boğaziçi University, Üstün Ergüder, Honorary Coordinator of SDSN Turkey and Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the SDSN and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General. The event counted on the honorary presence of Davut Kavranoğlu, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and the Mayor of Istanbul’s Sariyer District Sukru Genc.
In the coming months, Bogaziçi University will coordinate the activities of this new SDSN network of universities, NGOs and businesses interested in identifying and implementing solutions initiatives addressing Turkey’s sustainability challenges, including sustainable cities, sustainable agriculture, deep decarbonization, sustainable tourism, and green campuses.
