In order to serve as an effective management tool and scorecard for measuring progress, the SDGs must be underpinned by robust data that is regularly published and shared with citizens.
The SDSN report “Indicators and a Monitoring Framework for the SDGs” sets out 100 global monitoring indicators and a larger number of supplementary national indicators. The indicators are available in an interactive web platform . The report also highlights urgent priorities for implementation, including filling gaps in available indicators, moving towards annual data collection, and conducting detailed national needs assessments of the investments and systems required. SDSN’s on indicators has been informed through extensive consultation with academics, civil society, multilateral institutions, and national statistical offices.
