This report from SDSN’s Thematic Research Network on Sustainable Development Data provides an independent view on how national systems should evolve in order to accommodate this change.

  • Achieving a Sustainable Urban America: SDSN’s first U.S. Cities SDG Index

    The U.S. Cities SDG Index aims to help urban leaders address the many sustainable development challenges affecting their cities. The Index covers the 100 most populous cities (measured as Metropolitan Statistical Areas, or MSAs). It synthesizes data available today across 49 indicators spanning 16 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were agreed upon by all countries in September 2015. The data provides a more holistic and comprehensive assessment of sustainable development challenges faced by U.S. cities than available through other metrics. Results show that all U.S. cities, even those at the top of the Index, have far to go to achieve the SDGs.

  • US Cities SDG Index Consultation

The U.S. Cities SDG Index aims to set a framework for action and help urban leaders address implementation challenges across cities.

  • Indicators and a Monitoring Framework for FfD: Proposals for Follow-up and Review of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda

    This paper considers what aspects of the AAAA are already being monitored by the SDG indicator framework and identifies gaps, before reviewing a sample set of issues that should be measured using additional AAAA-specific indicators. It also presents options for establishing an indicator-based global monitoring process, as well as complementary monitoring processes at regional and national levels, and amongst non-governmental actors. It critically evaluates the feasibility of each option, setting out key recommendations for Member States.
