The SDG Centre of Excellence for the Arab Region (SDGCAR), hosted at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), in collaboration with the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), is developing the first regional SDG Index for the 22 Arab countries. The index follows the methodology of the global Sustainable Development Report (formerly SDG Index and Dashboards Report), which is developed and published annually by SDSN and the Bertelsmann Stiftung. As part of the project, we are organising a public expert consultation, through which we hope to enhance the robustness of the indicators selected for the regional index.
The purpose of this public consultation is twofold: 1. validating the new indicators that the project team is proposing for inclusion in this index, and 2. soliciting suggestions on new or improved indicators.
The report itself will include several new indicators that aim to capture and contextualise the unique sustainable development challenges in this very diverse region and synthesizes available data on the SDGs from official sources. To complement the data, the report will also feature case studies that provide deeper insights around specific SDG related issues facing a select group of countries. We hope for this publication to be used by stakeholders in the Arab states to identify key regional and national priority areas around the SDGs and serve as a benchmark for progress toward the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
We are extremely grateful for any amount of comments you are able to provide, based on your area(s) of expertise and time. We estimate that feedback and suggestions on 4-5 SDGs, for example, would not take more than 15 minutes.
The questionnaire will remain open until 15 June 2019.
While we would like to know your name, contact details, and area of expertise (including for possible follow-up questions) we will treat the identifying information you provide us anonymously. Should you have any questions concerning the questionnaire or the project, please contact the SDG Center for the Arab Region (SDGCentre@eda.ac.ae).
We thank you in advance for your support for the first SDG Index for the Arab Region!
