Melika Edquist is a Program Manager who leads many of SDSN’s data, monitoring and accountability initiatives as well as the USA Sustainable Cities Initiative. She manages partnerships and a portfolio of projects relating to new data infrastructures, data sharing practices, and process innovation for the Thematic Research Network on Data and Statistics (TReNDS). Her portfolio has also expanded to projects exploring how cities, regions, and other stakeholders can apply the SDG framework to enhance their sustainability efforts at the local level.
Prior to joining SDSN, Melika worked at the Earth Institute coordinating multi-sectoral initiatives in Haiti and as a communications specialist at Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). She worked with the Center for Research on Environmental Decisions conducting qualitative research on environmental risk perceptions and migration in Haiti and with the Research Center for Leadership in Action at NYU on collective leadership initiatives. She has consulted with organizations including the Global Gender and Climate Alliance, the Chevron- Liberia Economic Development Initiative, Vox Media, and the bomb, a documentary film about nuclear disarmament which premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival in 2016. Melika’s background includes research, education and youth development initiatives in Madagascar, Haiti, and La Réunion, France.
Melika received her MPA in International Urban Policy and Planning from the NYU – Wagner School of Public Service, where she was the co-founder of the cross-disciplinary Alliance for Climate Change and the Environment. She holds a BA in Urban Studies from Barnard College at Columbia University, where she graduated cum laude and with honors. Melika calls both Brooklyn, NY and Milwaukee, WI home.
