Marc Levy is Deputy Director of the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), a unit of Columbia University’s Earth Institute. He also teaches in Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs and directs the university’s new Environment, Peace and Security Certification Program. He is a political scientist utilizing interdisciplinary research to understand how humans can better manage complex, interlinked systemic risk. He is well known for his work on environmental security, on global environmental governance, and on sustainability indicators. He has served on several committees of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and played leadership roles in several international assessments, most recently as a Lead Author on the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change Fifth Assessment chapter on Human Security. He currently serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Data-Driven Development and Advisory Board on Sustainable Competitiveness, is a senior advisor to many large-scale research programs, and is a founding member of the Environmental Peacebuilding Academy.
