Laurie Manderino, PhD is Associate Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Head of the New York Office. She has more than 20 years of experience related to sustainable development. Early in her career, she worked as a policy analyst for Tetra Tech consulting company, where she supported US Environmental Protection Agency programs. At the Harvard Institute for International Development, she managed a project advising Eastern European countries on environmental policy during their economic transition in the 1990s. She continued this work as an environmental finance consultant at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Ms. Manderino then worked for five years in Africa, first as associate country director of the US Peace Corps in Benin, and later as country director for a pediatric HIV/AIDS program in Rwanda.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Finance and a PhD in Public Affairs, both from the University of Colorado. Her PhD focused on sustainable infrastructure and her research examined the impact of governance and institutional arrangements on urban water and sanitation access rates in 75 low- and middle-income countries. She also co-authored a book on the policy aspects of Voluntary Environmental Programs.
