Jacqueline d’Arros Hughes is the Deputy Director General for Research at IRRI. Previously she held the same position at AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center where she led the Center’s four global research and development themes, regional centers and key research support groups. Trained as an agricultural botanist and virologist (PhD in Microbiology/ Virology, University of Reading, UK) she has extensive international experience in Asia, Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa. She worked at the Glasshouse Crops Research Institute (UK), the University of Birmingham, Horticulture Research International (East Malling) and Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana. Before joining AVRDC she was the virologist and head of the Seed Health Unit at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria from 1994 to 2005.
