Ikenna Onyido is a Professor of Chemistry and the Founder/Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria, which he joined recently. From 2006 to 2011, he was Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Nigeria, where among other important achievements in institution building he turned the University’s outreach program into a platform for poverty reduction and economic empowerment of the rural communities, using principles and approaches elucidated by the Millennium Villages Project.

Professor Onyido holds a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry (1979) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation, Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science and Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.
