Gavin Neath is a Senior Advisor to Unilever CEO Paul Polman on the Post-2015 Development Process. Born in Tanzania, he has a first degree from Manchester University and an MsC from Warwick University. He joined Unilever as a graduate trainee in 1977. He worked at Lever Brothers U.K. in marketing and brand management. In 1985 he went to Paris as Marketing Director for Lever France. In 1989 he became Category Director for European Detergents based in Lever Europe in Brussels. In 1994 he went to South Africa as Managing Director of the personal products business and then was subsequently chairman of the merged detergents and personal care company. In 1998 he returned to the UK as Chairman of Van den Bergh Foods and later Chairman of Unilever Foods which included the newly acquired Bestfoods business.

In 2004 he was made Chairman of Unilever UK and in 2006 assumed his current responsibilities. Between 2008 and 2010 Gavin led the team that produced the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan – a 10 year strategy which sets out how Unilever will reduce its overall environmental impacts whilst at the same time doubling the size of the company. Gavin was awarded a CBE for services to the UK Food industry in the Queen’s 2007 New Honors List.
