Mrs. Charity Kaluki Ngilu is the Minister of Water and Irrigation in Kenya. From 2003 to 2007 she served as the Minister of Health. Before taking office, she was a member of the National Assembly of Kenya representing the Democratic Party. From 2005 to 2008 she served on the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health (CSDH), a global network of policy makers, researchers, and civil society organizations brought together by WHO to give support in tackling the social causes of poor health and avoidable health inequalities.

Mrs. Ngilu was the Social Democratic candidate for the Presidency of Kenya in the 1997 elections. Since 1989, she has been the leader of the Maenbeleo ya Wanawake organization, the national women’s movement. Before entering politics, Mrs Ngilu was Managing-Director of a food-manufacturing company in Nairobi.
