    2019 Sustainable Development Report

    The SDSN and Bertelsmann Stiftung published the Sustainable Development Report 2019 including the SDG Index and Dashboards. The report details progress by countries on their achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is the fourth edition of the annual review of countries’ performance on the 17 SDGs. It covers all 193 UN member states and presents data on changes over time in SDG indicators, as well as calculations for trajectories until 2030.

    Africa SDG Index and Dashboards

    On the 14th of June, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) released the 2nd edition of the Africa SDG Index and Dashboards report. The report is a call for action not only to meet the SDGs but also to ensure timely and high-quality data on SDG indicators. The report also focuses on the efforts that African governments are taking to incorporate the SDGs into their national strategies, budgets, public engagements, and coordination among branches of government.

    Mapping the Renewable Energy Sector to the Sustainable Development Goals: An Atlas

    SDSN has partnered with the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, and Equitable Origin to create a shared understanding of how the renewable energy sector can contribute to the SDGs. For each SDG, the Atlas explores potential opportunities and impacts from renewable energy project development, and provides recommendations for companies to better align conduct to the Sustainable Development Agenda.

    SDG Index and Dashboards for European Cities

    SDSN  in partnership with the Brabant Center for Sustainable Development (Telos, Tilburg University), released the first-ever SDG Index and Dashboards Report for European Cities. The report compares the performance of capital cities and a selection of large metropolitan areas in the European-Union (EU) and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In total, results for 45 European cities are presented in this first prototype version using 56 indicators.

    2019 World Happiness Report

    The World Happiness Report is a landmark survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be. This year’s World Happiness Report focuses on happiness and the community: how happiness has evolved over the past dozen years, with a focus on the technologies, social norms, conflicts and government policies that have driven those changes.

    Exposing EU policy gaps to address the Sustainable Development Goals

    The SDSN was commissioned by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to identify ways to strengthen evidence based policy making in the EU in the context of the SDGs and Agenda 2030. The study on “Exposing EU policy gaps to address the Sustainable Development Goals” highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the current official monitoring of the SDGs conducted by the European Commission via Eurostat and makes 4 recommendations to the EESC to strengthen the involvement of civil society organizations in the measurement and implementation of the SDGs.

    A Pathway to Sustainable American Cities: A Guide to Implementing the SDGs

    In January 2019, SDSN hosted a workshop alongside the 2019 Winter Meeting of the US Conference of Mayors with practitioners and experts to discuss their experiences and consider lessons detailed in the draft practitioner guide: “A Pathway to Sustainable American Cities: A Guide to Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.” This guide, a re-imagining of a 2016 guide prepared for a global urban audience, presents 10 steps for cities to consider on their way to adapting and adopting the global framework for their own city.

    SDSN USA Launch: Moving America Forward

    On December 4, 2018 the US chapter of the SDSN was launched at Columbia University in New York. The chapter is co-directed by academic centers at Columbia University, Yale University, and the University of California San Diego. The SDSN USA joins 29 existing SDSN networks that are creating new online courses, educating their students and the general public, working with governments, engaging and empowering young people, and offering innovative solutions for the SDGs.
